Student Hub and Pop-Up Food Court
Murdoch University’s recently completed Student Hub project has delivered a flexible, adaptive community space where students can eat, socialise, refresh, engage and co-work. The $20.4million dollar redevelopment of a tired, inefficient refectory has transformed the student experience our Perth campus, placing student life at the centre of the cultural heart of our suburban campus.

Drawing together a number of diverse functions into one cohesive space, the Student Hub project has delivered a new Restaurant, fast food vendors, Student Guild spaces, student meeting rooms, large event and workshop space and a range of outdoor seating areas. The Student Hub project has improved connectivity of the University, creating new links through the physical built form to gardens and courtyards. The tour will also cover the Pop-Up Ref, our temporary food court that has been servicing staff and students through food trucks and sea container kitchens during the redevelopment.

This tour will be led by the University’s Property Portfolio Manager, Richard Kendall, and a representative from the project’s architect, James Edwards from Hames Sharley.

Murdoch University Art Collection
Murdoch University Art Collection is a vibrant and growing cultural asset which reflects and celebrates the creative diversity of Australian contemporary visual arts practice. The Collection’s mission is to enrich the teaching and learning experience of students and staff through integrating contemporary art into campus life and to develop and maintain an art collection of national significance.

To date the Collection holds almost 2000 artworks, which are showcased in locations throughout the University’s campuses. Physically woven throughout these campuses, the Collection is readily accessible and can be interacted with on a day-to-day basis. It enhances the environment and contributes to shaping Murdoch University’s cultural identity, whilst stimulating minds and contributing to the academic learning experience.

In addition to having the opportunity to see how the University integrates artworks into the campus, attendees will also gain an insight into the Art Collection governance model and acquisition policy and inspect the University’s new gallery space. This component of the tour will be led by Art Collection Curator, Mark Stewart.
